Nutrition

Food and Nutrition has been an interest of mine for over 20 years. It started in my kitchen growing up and followed me into college. It wasn't until the last day of my Freshman year in school that I decided to move forward with my study of dietetics. I was determined to not gain that Freshman 15 and didn't, but it wasn't long until the weight began to creep on. Through my own studies, I was able to figure out how to release that extra weight and balance my eating.
As a Registered Dietitian, practicing in an integrative or functional way, I truly believe that food can be medicine along with treating the whole person...mind, body, soul.
I will not tell you to not eat to your favorite foods. This is simply not practical for healthy eating for life. What I practice is a more balance approach and I help others to figure out how to fit their favorite foods into a healthy lifestyle overall. I find that others can adapt to this approach much better than the traditional "I'm on a diet" mindset. This is a process of learning about emotions & food, habits, and healthy body image.
It is also very important to me that we try to eat the best quality of food possible, paying close attention to added chemicals & food dyes. Optimal health is achieved more accurately by removing/avoiding harsh toxins in our daily food intake. Sometimes, these toxins are the very reason we are having trouble releasing un-needed pounds.

Emotional Side of Eating
How Much Should You be Eating?
This is just one way to calculate your intake. Calculating your intake is not the end-all, be-all to maintaining a healthy weight but it can certainly give you a place to start. Understanding where you are, is key to knowing where to start and what changes need to be made. Two aps you can consider using to keep track are
My Fitness Pal and Share How You Eat. Please keep in mind that some do well on intake trackers and some do not...what I teach is to get to know YOU and your hunger cues.

Fitness

There's just not better way to say it! I am a huge fan of exercise because I know what it causes the brain to do which is the very reason why EVERYONE should be doing some type of heart-rate increasing exercise 3-5 times a week or more. In my opinion, the emotional benefits of exercise, just can't be beat. Along with healthier eating practices, over 20 years of consistent exercise has taught me that I surely don't ever want to be without. We have 1 body, let's take good care of it!

These are a super easy, quick snack when you are on the go and don't have time to pack perishable items. I will often times use them as an afternoon snack or in addition to a meal when I know I need to have an extra protein source but really want something sweet too:)
